BLUE GRAVEL MINE AND CANYON CREEK TRAILS

These two west Redding trails represent a four-year partnership with a local subdivision developer that included land acquisition, design, funding and trail construction. Signature Northwest, the developer, understood the positive impact trails can have on property values and has transformed that passion for trails into community designs which reflect a concern for quality of life amenities. The Blue Gravel Trail has an interesting genesis in Redding's mining tradition. Prior to 1900, the City operated a gold mine in Blue Gravel Canyon. Relics from this era are still visible from the trail, so the developer chose to use construction materials reminiscent of this historic theme. To date, 2.5 miles of trails have been developed, with an additional two-mile extension on the adjoining Canyon Creek Trail under discussion.
